The Green Welly Stop, Tyndrum, Perthshire, Scotland

My friend, Ann, and I recently visited Tyndrum, Perthshire, Scotland and took a rest break at The Green Welly Stop. Ann had visited here before and recommended it.  I was surprised by the excellent quality of the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant and facilities.  The staff were pleasant and helpful too.

ImageWe found a wide choice of healthy foods, served in good portions. There were no fried foods, and even the croutons that we got to put in our soup were baked in the oven! Everything seemed to be nice and fresh.  The scones, soup and sandwiches we had were all homemade and prepared on the premises.  The home baking was delicious!

Given all this, we were pleasantly surprised that the prices were not too high, particularly bearing in mind that the restaurant has little local competition.

ImageI chose a fantastic, filling cream of broccoli and cauliflower soup.  My friend had the best seller, the Cullen Skink with Mallaig peat smoked Haddock, onions, tatties, fish stock and cream.  We both really enjoyed these.

In the mall containing the restaurant there are several shops offering a variety of Scottish souvenirs, cards and snacks as well as clothes and groceries.  The restrooms were very clean, especially considering the large number of people stopping at the facility. Indeed, apparently the lavatories have won a national award!

I was not familiar with The Green Welly Stop before my friend mentioned it, however, I would certainly recommend it and I am sure I will use it again.
