The Folly Bar, 41 Gracechurch Street, London EC3V 0BT, England

Last time I was in London, England, I was looking for somewhere to have dinner with my daughter and her fiance. I wanted it to be central, easy for all of us to get to, reasonably priced and not too formal. No big ask, I hear you say! Well, I found it in The Folly Bar. The bar/restaurant has music and a bar downstairs while on the ground floor it has a bistro area and bar. Access to the ground floor is disabled friendly. We were there on a Friday evening and to say the place was busy is an understatement! The Folly Bar is near London Bridge and Signage 2easily reached by public transport.

The staff are pleasant, although service was not fast. However they were very, very busy and we were not in a hurry. When we asked to move tables to be a little further away from the entrance and the music downstairs, we were accommodated.

We shared a Mediterranean starter of hummus, babaganoush, flat bread and roasted vegetables. Generally it was delicious, except for the babaganoush. It was rank. For our main courses we all had different things ranging from a steak sandwich to a veggie burger to a super foods salad. All the meals were freshly cooked. The ingredients were fresh and it was all very tasty.

DM-LIFESTYLE041We had no room for dessert but all had teas or coffees. The staff did not rush us. It was a very good meal and I will look forward to dining at The Folly again. However, when I asked for the bill, the waitress chose not to inform me that a “discretionary” gratuity of 12.5% had all ready been added. I know, I should have checked, but I live in a village and things like that do not happen here! So I had added a further 15% tip before I noticed the “discretionary” payment. I was irritated by the waitress but more cross with myself. I will not make that mistake again.
