The Cherry Orchard, West Kilbride, Scotland

wkglen_019This bistro, The Cherry Orchard, West Kilbride, North Ayrshire, Scotland, in the centre of West Kilbride, is tucked between a beauty salon and the Spar and near  West Kilbride Glen, in Orchard Street. The wide windows belie the warm interior where the staff are friendly. Nobody ever feels rushed or unwelcome. The wooden tables and matching chairs are a little dated but functional.  More importantly, the food is fresh and tasty and the home made soups, scones and cakes are all delicious.

The locals support the bistro well throughout the day. This is always a good sign. Whether it be for a breakfast roll and freshly made coffee to go; a relaxed coffee and scone mid-morning to put the world to rights; a delicious light lunch perhaps a burger, baked potato or soup and a sandwich. The restaurant is always a pleasant place to be. An afternoon tea and a piece of cake or an evening meal from a varied menu, taking advantage of the reasonable corkage charges: this is a local little gem.

The worst kept secret in the village!  I highly recommend it.

The Rowan Tree Restaurant, Ardrossan, Scotland

The Rowan Tree in Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, Scotland offers an excellent choice of food at very reasonable prices.  Four of us got together for Sunday Lunch.  Fortunately we had not eaten breakfast the portions are generous.  We had a choice of the Roast of Pork as well as the regular menu. which was varied from traditional fish and chips to home made Italian dishes.

ImageEverything, including the plates was hot and the food was delicious, the meal was freshly cooked and tasty and the coffee very smooth.  The bill for 4 including coffees came to a very reasonable £50.  Service was unobtrusive, but friendly and with typical west coast humour.

The restaurant offers superb panoramic views of the River Clyde and the ferry across the water to Isle of Arran.  There is good disabled access and a disabled loo on the same level.   I always enjoy a visit to The Rowan Tree Restaurant.  This visit was no exception.

The Lauriston Hotel and Restaurant, Ardossan, Scotland

I have only visited the function suite of The Lauriston Hotel and Restaurant, Ardossan, North Ayrshire, Scotland.  I had never been here before – and will never go again! I was at a function. The meals were not freshly made. The steak pie consisted of a very large piece of pastry, some gravy and precious little meat while the vegetarian option was inedible.

To add insult to injury the staff removed the wine & wine glasses from the tables after we sat down but before the meal was served!   Recorded music was played throughout the meal making conversation amongst the guests at the dinner difficult.

I cannot recommend this venue. There are many restaurants serving delicious food in the area.  There are also several good hotels!
